"Brazilian
Romance "
The Bossa Nova Phenomenon
The
world discovered Bossa Nova in 1963 with the huge success of
the master composer Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Girl from Ipanema";
simultaneously inspiring American Jazz and popular music with
this "new wave". A collective smile spreads across
faces when Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66 is mentioned and the
first notes of "One Note Samba" are heard. Sonny &
Perley together with guest musicians including Brazilian guitarist
Jason Ennis and/or world percussionist Brian Melick capture
the essence of the sultry romance and mesmerizing rhythm of
Bossa Nova. Perley effectively draws the audience in with a
fascinating narration and both English and Portuguese interpretations
of lyrics. Hugely entertaining, enthusiastically received, educational
and uplifting!
The Post Star review says “To their Brazilian
and American fans alike, Sonny & Perley have a style that
is as irresistible and authentic as the Ipanema girl herself.”

Great American Songbook
Post Golden
Age
Much
of the music written between 1959 and 1970 is etched into our
hearts and minds in a nostalgic way. Baby boomers and their parents
remember the theme songs from many Hollywood films,
such as The Shadow Of Your Smile, A Man and A Woman, Alfie,
The Summer Of 42 (The Summer Knows), Moon River.
